Oregon Beef PSA: USDA Grazing Action Plan to Strengthen American Ranching Brings Hope to Oregon Ranchers, Farmers, and Rural Communities

For generations, Oregon ranchers and farmers have helped feed families across the Pacific Northwest. Their hard work, stewardship of the land, and commitment to raising quality Oregon beef/livestock have played a major role in Oregon’s economy, food security, and agricultural heritage.

That is why many in the Oregon Beef Industry and Oregon’s agricultural community are watching recent federal grazing announcements with cautious optimism.

Oregon Beef Needs Oregonian Support

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently announced new directives designed to expand grazing opportunities on National Forest lands, streamline permitting processes, and improve communication between federal agencies and ranchers. Supporters believe these changes could help strengthen rural economies, increase access to grazing land, and support the next generation of ranching families.

For many Oregon Cattle Ranchers and Farmers facing rising costs, labor shortages, inflation, and increasing regulatory challenges, any effort to create more opportunities for working ranches is welcome news, and we’re here for it.

Grazing Action Plan to Strengthen American Ranching - USDA Oregon Beef Cattle Ranch

Grazing Matters in Oregon, Here’s Why…

Oregon is home to millions of acres of grazing land that support cattle operations large and small. These ranches in Oregon help provide locally raised beef while supporting equipment suppliers, veterinarians, feed stores, truck drivers, processors, butchers, restaurants, caterers, and countless other small businesses.

When ranching succeeds, entire rural communities benefit.

Many support the USDA initiative and believe increased access to grazing allotments could help in many ways:

  • Help family ranches remain financially viable
  • Increase domestic beef production
  • Support local jobs
  • Strengthen food security
  • Preserve working agricultural lands
  • Encourage future generations to stay in agriculture
  • Reduce dependence on imported food sources

These are goals that many Oregonians can support regardless of political affiliation.

What This Could Mean for Oregon Beef

Oregon already produces some of the finest beef in America. From Eastern Oregon ranches to family farms throughout the Willamette Valley, locally raised beef continues to grow in popularity among consumers seeking farm-to-table freshness.

If grazing access expands and Oregon ranchers are able to increase production responsibly, consumers in Oregon and betond could benefit from:

  • More locally raised Oregon beef
  • Increased availability of premium Oregon beef cuts
  • Stronger local food systems Nationwide
  • Additional support for independent Oregon ranchers
  • Greater farm-to-table opportunities for Oregonians

For businesses like Catering Service Portland, this is exciting because local beef is at the heart of many of the meals people love most.

From premium ribeye steaks and brisket to tri tip, beef skewers, short ribs, and bacon wrapped medallions, Oregon beef continues to be one of the most sought after ingredients for weddings, corporate events, family gatherings, and barbecue celebrations.

Supporting Oregon Farmers and Ranchers

Many consumers never realize how much work goes into raising livestock responsibly.

Ranchers face weather challenges, rising costs, predators, regulations, market fluctuations, and countless other obstacles that most people never see.

Supporting local agriculture helps preserve open spaces, maintain working lands, and keep food production closer to home.

Every time someone chooses local beef, they are supporting:

  • Oregon ranchers
  • Oregon farmers
  • Local butcher shops
  • Rural communities
  • Family-owned businesses
  • Agricultural jobs

That support matters, so get louder. We updated this historic website with existing domain age to help support Oregon Beef, please do the same with a like, share, comment, or patron one of the many catering companies in Oregon that provide Oregon Beef. More coming soon!

IP28 Debate and Oregon Agriculture

Another issue that has generated significant heat in the kitchen within Oregon agriculture is Initiative Petition 28, known as IP28 to us locals.

The supporters of IP28 argue that it would improve animal welfare standards, but that is far from the case when you look at the fine print.

Oregonians argue that the measure would have unintended consequences for Oregon agriculture, dairy cows, family farms, ranchers, veterinarians, food production, and animal ownership throughout the State of Oregon.

One point frequently raised by ranchers and farmers is that domestic livestock depend on human care in Oregon. Dairy cows for example, rely on farmers safety and care on every level from nutrition, medical care, and shelter, to breeding management and protection from predators, dairy cows need people to thrive.

Many agricultural advocates suggest that Oregon’s growing predator populations, including coyotes and wolves, create real challenges for ranchers and livestock producers. Ranchers in Oregon often spend significant time, energy, and resources protecting their animals from predation while maintaining healthy herds of cattle.

Oregonians who disagree with IP28 argue that responsible livestock management and animal care are already priorities for most ranchers and that removing agricultural tools could potentially create new challenges rather than solve existing ones, and we tend to agree.

As with many policy issues, reasonable people can disagree, and the conversation continues across Oregon’s farming and ranching communities, but what we are seeing is more than just a policy shift or disagreement. IP28 crosses the line for many, and it would eliminate the farmers ability to protect their animals from predators, essentially ending farm-life as we know it.

Furthermore, local Oregon Independent Journalist “The Guyer Show” has seemingly uncovered Foreign Nationals collecting signatures for IP28 in Portland, and they admit it on video. Tune in and decide for yourself. Do you think someone who does not live in the State or Country be allowed to influence elections or policy? You decide (video link below). Keep reading…

Oregon Farms Looking Ahead

The USDA’s new grazing directives have created optimism throughout many ranching communities. Supporters see an opportunity to strengthen family ranches, improve access to working lands, and help secure the future of American beef production.

At the same time, real success for Oregon Farms and Ranches will depend on implementation, results on the ground, environmental stewardship, and whether these policies actually deliver meaningful benefits to producers and consumers alike.

For now, Oregon farmers and ranchers have reason to be hopeful, and we are cheering for their success.

Time will tell whether these changes achieve their intended goals, but any effort that creates opportunities for hardworking agricultural families deserves thoughtful consideration and careful observation as it moves forward.

To Be Determined by Implementation: We are encouraged by the potential benefits and optimistic about what this could mean for Oregon agriculture, but the true measure of success will be what happens in practice. We look forward to seeing how these policies are implemented and whether they deliver real results for Oregon Ranchers, Farmers, consumers, and rural communities.

The pictures speak for themselves, and we know you are already saying you want to go, but how awesome is it really? Will I, a beginner actually be able to do this? The answer, it’s really awesome and yes you will in just a few minutes be up Flyboarding above the water! This new adrenaline rush was invented by a French Jet Ski racer, Franky Zapata in 2011 and since moved to the USA and taken water sports to a whole new level. How does it work? Without getting to technical, there is a 55 foot long fire hose that is connected to the PWC or Personal Watercraft that can propel you up to 35 feet in the air or below the surface!

gorge flyboard, hydroflight, oregon extreme adventures

On your first time out with Gorge Flyboard, you probably won’t be doing all the tricks or going all the way up to 35 feet, but after a short session from a certified Flyboarding instructor you will most likely make it up out of the water in 5-10 minutes and have full basic control in 15-20 minutes. During the whole flight the pilot (you) will have full control over the navigation and your instructor will operate the PWC and will be in control of the throttle. This ensures optimal safety. Soon after your first flight you will be doing flips in midair and plunging in and out of the water just like a dolphin!
